Friends of the Zoo Art Contest
for Hawaii County Public Schools
Grades 1-3
The Pana’ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, located in a natural rainforest, is home to some 85 different species: ranging from primates, mammals, birds to reptiles. The recent renovation has encouraged many people, from locals to visitors, to come and enjoy the improved zoo. With all the upgrades, this would be the perfect time to do something new and exciting. The Friends of the Pana’ewa Zoo (FOZ) would like to announce an art contest showcasing the artistic talents of Hawaii County Public School Students in Grades 1-3.
Theme: “Pana’ewa Rainforest Zoo Animals”
Artwork must feature an animal in its environment at the Pana’ewa Zoo.
Goal: To motivate students to expand their passion for art and for their hometown zoo in a fun and creative way.
We invite children to come to the zoo and see the animals in their environment, giving them a chance to take in the wonders of the zoo and take back memories to their classroom to draw/paint their favored animals. Because some students may not be able to make the trip to the zoo, the Friends of the Zoo website will post several videos in order to give everyone a chance to see the animals in their environment.
All artwork submitted will be displayed at the Wailoa Center from January 13, – January 26, 2023. Grand Opening will be Saturday, January 14, 2023. First, second and third prize winners will be announced and awards will be given to the kids.
