Jake is a boa constrictor nonvenomous snake, and as this name implies, he can suffocate prey by coiling around it – and squeezing. Boas usually live on their own, and are nocturnal but may bask during the day when night-time temperatures are too low. Boas are carnivores and ambush predators, eating small mammals, birds and other reptiles. Their metabolism is slow, and they may not eat for a week between meals.
